Google is Developing Two Sizes for the Pixel Watch 3

The Pixel Watch has faced criticism for being too small in its first and second generations, and it seems Google is gearing up to tackle this issue. According to a reliable source, Google is working on two different sizes for the upcoming Pixel Watch 3, aiming to address the key design complaint of its predecessors.

While the Pixel Watch 2 brought notable specification upgrades, the design, including the 41 mm diameter and 12.3 mm thickness, remained largely unchanged. The main visual difference was the crown, with subtle variations visible on the underside sensor stack. The issue of size has been a sticking point for users, as the smaller form factor may not cater to everyone's preferences.

Wearable users often have a keen sense of the size of objects worn on their wrists. For some, the current Pixel Watch size works well, but for others, it feels too small. A larger watch case not only addresses this aesthetic concern but also allows for better specifications, including a larger battery and more space for sensors. Additionally, on smartwatches, a larger display can significantly enhance the user experience in terms of visibility and interaction.

As of now, details regarding any functional differences between the two Pixel Watch 3 sizes remain unknown, aside from potential variations in screen size and battery capacity. The recent reorganization of Fitbit and Google hardware doesn't seem to be an immediate factor influencing product development, although plans can evolve before the official launch.

In comparison to competitors, Samsung offers different sizes for its Galaxy Watch 6, allowing users to choose between 40 mm and 44 mm options. The Galaxy Watch 6 Classic comes in 43 mm and 47 mm sizes, featuring a rotating bezel and stainless steel construction. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Series 9 provides choices between 41 mm and 45 mm.

To address the size-related concerns, it would be beneficial for Google to not only introduce a larger variant but also work on minimizing bezels and incorporating a larger screen on the smaller model. An important consideration is whether existing bands will be compatible with the new, larger size due to potential curvature differences.

By offering a variety of sizes, Google aims to remedy the primary complaint about the Pixel Watch's size. Some users have reportedly opted for Samsung alternatives simply because they find the Pixel Watch too small for their liking. This move towards diverse sizing reflects Google's commitment to meeting user preferences and ensuring a more inclusive appeal for its upcoming wearable.
